Houses and Restaurants for Licensing purposes, and upon other property for the purposes of the Water Authority, also misellaneous Reports as may may be required.

Increase in Revenue from Assessed Taxes

The Rateable Value of the Colony 1889 was $3,283, 279, it is now $5,128,943 an increase of $1,845,664.

In 1889 the Revenue from Assessed

Taxes was $ 385,576.14 in 1889 it amounted to $612,828.57 an inreased collection of $227,252.45 and I anticipate a further substantial increase this year.

Work still increasing As the

erection of new buildings proceeds on the Praya Reclamation

the Tai Ping Shan resumed area, and the improvements at

Yau Ma-ti, Hung Hom, Mong Kok Tsui, Tai Kok Tsui, Fuk Tsun

Heung etc. and on the line of the new Road to the New Territory

the work of the Assessor is being and will be still further

augmented.

Early last year the house in which

I was living was sold, and the new owner gave notice of

his intention to reside there himself upon the expiration

Children. Since my arrival here the cost of food, house

rent, srevant's wages, clothing etc. has gone up by leaps

and bounds, as will be seen by reference to the Memorial

presented by the Members of the Civil Service- dated 12th.
